The Kaji Lemon, Assam’s pride and joy, boasts a unique origin story. Unlike its meticulously cultivated citrus cousins, the Kaji Lemon emerged from a lucky chance encounter. At the Burnihat Citrus Station, a single seedling with an elongated shape, vibrant yellow hue, and intense fragrance sprouted unexpectedly. Recognizing its potential, horticulturists nurtured this “chance seedling” and named it the Kaji Nemu, or “Kaji Lemon.” Further investigation suggests a possible connection to the local Chinakaghi variety, but the Kaji Lemon stands out for its size, juicier content, and remarkable ability to stay fresh on the tree – perfect for long-distance journeys.
